The Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover has become a cult classic among fans of Walt Disney World® Resort. And justifiably so, as the magnet-powered, 10-minute-long attraction is one of the best all of the theme parks have to offer.
It’s devoid of the thrills and twists of the bigger attractions, and it also lacks the storylines that the most iconic have. The narrated tour of the Tomorrowland® Area is something entirely different and is closer to a monorail ride than anything actually inside of the parks.
It’s filled with rich history, as the initial vision for the project was developed by Walt Disney to be used as transportation within his original version of the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. It’s fitting that while on the attraction, guests get to see an architectural model for the original Epcot®. It’s one of the only places in all of the four parks where guests get to see such an original piece of Disney conceptualizing, but the ride doesn’t stop there.
It’s one of the best attractions to people-watch and see fireworks from. Granted, the inside segments of the ride do block portions of the nighttime spectacular. Still, there’s nothing quite like breaking out of the dark like seeing fireworks light up the night sky just across the walkway.
Soaring over the guests on the ground is a ton of fun, and the breeze the ride whips up is more than welcome on hot days.
It also offers the best chance to see Space Mountain® Attraction with its fabled lights on. It’s the sort of rare occurrence that hardcore fans haven’t been able to check off their bucket list after years of obsessive searching.
And yet, time and time again, it’s proven to be less of a found-footage myth from YouTube and more of a surprise feature of another attraction. There are few things quite as surprising or cool as peeling around a dark corner only to be greeted by the twisting track of one of Disney’s most loved coasters, fully illuminated by lighting.
What could have been an attraction just to absorb guests on crowded days was developed as one of the most creative ways to move about any portion of a theme park. It’s rich history and varied content is a constant testament to how unique Disney can be at its best, making it one of the best attractions in all of the Disney parks.
