What we know about the next Star Wars attraction

Galaxy’s Edge is set to open its next attraction on Dec. 5, 2019 in Florida and Jan. 17, 2020 in California. It is their next e-ticket attraction, meaning it’ll be pulling out all the stops when it comes to thrills and technology. Here’s what we know:

Called Rise of the Resistance, it takes guests on a mission with those fighting for good, where they will leave Batuu by boarding a transport shuttle to meet none other than General Leia. The First Order interrupts the secret mission, and captures guests just before arriving at the meeting point, where they are taken captive inside an iconic Star Destroyer.

With little other option but to run, guests will have to escape Kylo Ren and General Hux alongside fan-favorites like Rey, Finn and Poe.

Disney is calling it one of its largest attractions ever, and backs that up by hosting two life-sized AT-AT walkers and the entire interior of the Star Destroyer’s hangar. While guests have yet to see it themselves, description does little to do it justice by every account, as several TIE fighters and an army of Stormtroopers are also loaded within the same area. Everything is being built to scale, with the Millennium Falcon sitting outside in Galaxy’s Edge likely serving as a good example.

Disney has also announced that it is making use of several ride systems, including a trackless ride system and what it calls a  groundbreaking new simulator. Disney described this simulator as being able to give guests the sensation of falling from space and crash landing as they come close to the ground.

What exactly every moment the ride entails remains to be seen, and should likely be experienced for the fist time in person. But what can be told from Disney’s announcements is that Rise of the Resistance has the potential to be a game-changing attraction unlike any seen before.
