Walt Disney World® Resort'a 50th anniversary is set to begin on Oct. 1, 2021, and thus Disney has begun its announcement rollout for the anniversary. While limited-time items like merchandise and food and how the celebrations might effect festivals and holiday parties have yet to be announced, we have an idea as to the visual direction of the theme parks during the event. Here's what we know so far:

  • The celebrations will run for 18 months, giving guests plenty of time to experience the 50th

  • Guests who want to travel on the date of the 50th anniversary can do so to all parks except for Magic Kingdom® Park, which is currently at its maximum park reservations

  • Each park will see changes to its icon to commemorate the anniversary

Disney showcased the new icon projections in a social media video
  • A 50th anniversary crest and gold bunting will accent Cinderella Castle, while projection mapping will cover it in pixie dust once the sun sets

  • Disney's projection technology will cover the Tree of Life in fireflies

  • The Hollywood Tower Hotel will be covered in yet-to-be-revealed "special new touches"

  • Spaceship Earth will feature new lightning reminiscent of the stars in the night sky, which will be a permanent change to align the park's icon with Epcot®'s overhaul

    • Mickey and Minnie will wear new costumes for the celebration

Disney showcased Mickey and Minnie's new costumes via social media
  • Florida-registered drivers can purchase a 50th anniversary Walt Disney World Resort license plate, with proceeds going to Make-A-Wish of Central and Northern Florida

Additional announcements are set to be revealed across the coming months on the Disney Parks Blog. When you're ready to book or inquire about taking a vacation for Walt Disney World Resort's 50th anniversary
