REVIEW: Tron Lightcycle / Run

We've ridden the newest Walt Disney World® Resort attraction, Tron Lightcycle / Run, ahead of its April 4, 2023 opening date.

Developed after Shanghai's Tron Lightcycle Power Run, which opened June 16, 2016, the Magic Kingdom® Park version began construction in February of 2018. Taking heavy inspiration from 2010's Tron Legacy, Daft Punk's electric, triumphant score greets guests as they walk up to the expansive platform, winding track, and pillowing, neon-lit canopy.

The attraction's stark, enormous imprint on the skyline marks it as the spectacular new addition to Walt Disney World Resort that it is. A brief but exhilarating ride, this zipping coaster trades the awe-filling technology of some of Disney's newer attractions for an instant burst of adrenaline.

Those still in love with the sleek, video-game-inspired, Y2K-adjacent look that pervaded much of the 2000s will likely fall as in love with the queue design as we did. Some impressive visual effects make it feel, look, and sound as if you're walking into the film, with the moment guests are introduced to the ride vehicle a promise of the excitement to come.

We found our time in line to feel as brief and exciting as imaginable, with an efficient, fast-moving line that streaked by impressive storytelling moments.

The attraction will follow the same virtual queue system as Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Remy's Ratatouille Adventure did upon opening, so guests should have even more confidence regarding minimal wait times.

We won't spoil the mechanics or scenes of the attraction, but the launch atop its motorcycle-like ride vehicles is among the best moments of any Disney attraction anywhere. The following ride experience is short, but is packed with visual detail and fun twists and turns.

With a thrill level we find matches that of Test Track, Tron Lightcycle / Run's excitement should be perfect for guests varying thrill levels.

We loved our first ride through the Grid, and we're confident future trips through its coaster will be a mainstay in our Magic Kingdom Park plans.
